Happy New Year & Lessons Learned

image

2013 has been a very memorable year for me. The good, the bad, and the REALLY good have happened. It’s amazing the things one can go through in just one year.

The start of the year started out rocky with unsure career paths and dealing with my younger son’s health issues (who is healthy and growing up too fast now), but it sure ended with a bang! I learned many lessons this year, but the most important was learning to be honest with myself and those in my life.

Not to sound cliche, but my life seemed at a crossroad in terms of my relationships. One way was saying “If you’d like to be a bitter, unhappy and broke ol’ bitch go down this path”. Taking the opposite path seemed like a no brainer, but it definitely was a struggle to let go and steer into the right direction. My BS tolerance had reached its limit. Is this what happens as you get older??

Someone once told me if you don’t have integrity in this (makeup) industry, then what do you have going for yourself? You won’t expect to go far that is for sure. Who you surround yourself with really affects your life and you begin to mirror what you see, hear, and feel. Once I let go of all the selfishness, dishonesty, negativity, jealousy, fears and stopped tolerating these feelings from those around me, all the good that I knew would happen one day started happening!

It’s amazing the things we are willing to do or how much we convince ourselves we really need something or someone to survive in this world. But in the end, you realize is it really worth it? My initial reaction was hell no, but you know what? I wouldn’t have changed a thing. That’s the thing about growing pains. They suck and are sometimes extremely painful, but you need them. Otherwise what lessons would I have learned?
I have been so very lucky to be surrounded by people who truly love and support me in my personal and work life. I am so thankful to those who really saw my true gifts and encouraged me rather than break me down. I have been so lucky to have received such generousity and thoughtfulness from friends and colleagues. I am inspired everyday by the struggles and the happiness of those around me because it keeps me grounded. I am so very thankful to do what I love everyday (I am a full-time mom, full-time wife and a full-time makeup artist and yes that is possible lol) and to be surrounded by fellow creatives who love what they do as much as I do.

I feel for the first time in a long time that I can finally exhale (remember the movie Waiting To Exhale??? lol), even if it’s just for a short time because I know life has a lot more curve balls to throw at me but I’m ready for whatever. Bring. It.

OK, one New Year’s resolution? To be a better full-time friend. No one said juggling relationships is easy!

Happy New Year to you all and I wish you an abundance of happiness, success and just a wee little bit of pain!

November Rewind: Remark Magazine and IMATS Toronto 2013

Time really does fly by when you’re having fun! Where has November gone?? It’s hard to believe that Christmas is about 1 month away – eek!

November has been a crazy month of work and fun so here’s a quick recap of what I’ve been up to.

IMATS Toronto 2013 Highlights:

580619_500879480019735_509132068_nDid you get “Minked”? If you didn’t, you definitely missed out! Our booth was crazy busy both days. I don’t even know how many lashes I applied, but I probably can apply fake lashes with my eyes closed now. It was such a great experience working with the lovely Minked Lashes team and working with these absolutely beautifully hand-crafted, 100% mink and horse hair lashes (which by the way are 100% cruelty free). Β Oh did I mention that my dear friend and talented artist, Arabella Trasca, is also the Creative Director? Pretty amazing! Be sure to check out their site now which is now live. You will want to snatch up all of them. For the quality and styles, Minked Lashes is the most affordable brand I’ve seen. The most expensive pairs are $26! I seriously am in love with all the styles.

Thank you to all my special peeps who came and got “minked” and those that stopped just to say hi! You know who you are!! IMATS is like a reunion for all us artists. I love you guys and appreciate all your support!! I also enjoyed meeting new friends and can’t wait to do it all over again next year.

Eve Pearl!!!

Eve Pearl!!!

Hi. That’s me with 5 time Emmy award-winning makeup artist, Eve Pearl. This moment was obviously the biggest highlight of the weekend for me. Meeting her and this picture could not have been possible without Eve’s Pearlette and fabulous makeup artist, Nicole Lemos Makeup Junkie! I actually met Nicole at The Shopping Channel days before IMATS. I was super bummed I wouldn’t get to meet her and made it my mission to meet her at IMATS. Mission accomplished! Eve is one of the most gracious, humble, and utterly kind celebrity makeup artists I have ever met! If you’re a fan (and why wouldn’t you be??), Eve will be back at The Shopping Channel with her team and amazing products on January 31st in the new year!Β

Finally get to share a shoot I did during the summer. The photog duo, Jane & Jane, always have such amazing vision when creating their edgy editorials. I really love the effects they did for this series which is featured on 1968 Magazine’s website! The styling was very masculine inspired with an edgy, feminine twist. I did a deep side part low pony with lots of texture. For the makeup, the skin was kept bare with nude eyes and lips, contouring and a very strong brow.
