Happy New Year & Lessons Learned

2013 has been a very memorable year for me. The good, the bad, and the REALLY good have happened. It’s amazing the things one can go through in just one year.

The start of the year started out rocky with unsure career paths and dealing with my younger son’s health issues (who is healthy and growing up too fast now), but it sure ended with a bang! I learned many lessons this year, but the most important was learning to be honest with myself and those in my life.

Not to sound cliche, but my life seemed at a crossroad in terms of my relationships. One way was saying “If you’d like to be a bitter, unhappy and broke ol’ bitch go down this path”. Taking the opposite path seemed like a no brainer, but it definitely was a struggle to let go and steer into the right direction. My BS tolerance had reached its limit. Is this what happens as you get older??

Someone once told me if you don’t have integrity in this (makeup) industry, then what do you have going for yourself? You won’t expect to go far that is for sure. Who you surround yourself with really affects your life and you begin to mirror what you see, hear, and feel. Once I let go of all the selfishness, dishonesty, negativity, jealousy, fears and stopped tolerating these feelings from those around me, all the good that I knew would happen one day started happening!

It’s amazing the things we are willing to do or how much we convince ourselves we really need something or someone to survive in this world. But in the end, you realize is it really worth it? My initial reaction was hell no, but you know what? I wouldn’t have changed a thing. That’s the thing about growing pains. They suck and are sometimes extremely painful, but you need them. Otherwise what lessons would I have learned?
I have been so very lucky to be surrounded by people who truly love and support me in my personal and work life. I am so thankful to those who really saw my true gifts and encouraged me rather than break me down. I have been so lucky to have received such generousity and thoughtfulness from friends and colleagues. I am inspired everyday by the struggles and the happiness of those around me because it keeps me grounded. I am so very thankful to do what I love everyday (I am a full-time mom, full-time wife and a full-time makeup artist and yes that is possible lol) and to be surrounded by fellow creatives who love what they do as much as I do.

I feel for the first time in a long time that I can finally exhale (remember the movie Waiting To Exhale??? lol), even if it’s just for a short time because I know life has a lot more curve balls to throw at me but I’m ready for whatever. Bring. It.

OK, one New Year’s resolution? To be a better full-time friend. No one said juggling relationships is easy!

Happy New Year to you all and I wish you an abundance of happiness, success and just a wee little bit of pain!
