November Rewind: Remark Magazine and IMATS Toronto 2013

Time really does fly by when you’re having fun! Where has November gone?? It’s hard to believe that Christmas is about 1 month away – eek!

November has been a crazy month of work and fun so here’s a quick recap of what I’ve been up to.

IMATS Toronto 2013 Highlights:

580619_500879480019735_509132068_nDid you get “Minked”? If you didn’t, you definitely missed out! Our booth was crazy busy both days. I don’t even know how many lashes I applied, but I probably can apply fake lashes with my eyes closed now. It was such a great experience working with the lovely Minked Lashes team and working with these absolutely beautifully hand-crafted, 100% mink and horse hair lashes (which by the way are 100% cruelty free).  Oh did I mention that my dear friend and talented artist, Arabella Trasca, is also the Creative Director? Pretty amazing! Be sure to check out their site now which is now live. You will want to snatch up all of them. For the quality and styles, Minked Lashes is the most affordable brand I’ve seen. The most expensive pairs are $26! I seriously am in love with all the styles.

Thank you to all my special peeps who came and got “minked” and those that stopped just to say hi! You know who you are!! IMATS is like a reunion for all us artists. I love you guys and appreciate all your support!! I also enjoyed meeting new friends and can’t wait to do it all over again next year.

Eve Pearl!!!

Eve Pearl!!!

Hi. That’s me with 5 time Emmy award-winning makeup artist, Eve Pearl. This moment was obviously the biggest highlight of the weekend for me. Meeting her and this picture could not have been possible without Eve’s Pearlette and fabulous makeup artist, Nicole Lemos Makeup Junkie! I actually met Nicole at The Shopping Channel days before IMATS. I was super bummed I wouldn’t get to meet her and made it my mission to meet her at IMATS. Mission accomplished! Eve is one of the most gracious, humble, and utterly kind celebrity makeup artists I have ever met! If you’re a fan (and why wouldn’t you be??), Eve will be back at The Shopping Channel with her team and amazing products on January 31st in the new year!

Haul Pt. 1

Beauty Blender Sponges (2 for $22.50 from Nigel’s), bdellium brushes, Lucas Paw Paw Ointment from Alcone, NARS Blush Palette in Adult Content, Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in various shades.

Eve Pearl Dual Foundation (they didn’t have refills so I will scrape this out into my palette), Stilazzi Set Bag, Individual Lashes/Strips from Nigel’s Beauty Emporium

My silly son wearing a pair of some Minked Lashes I picked up. I got Mila, Scarlet, Celine and Pandora.

I also have some new work that was published in Remark Magazine’s holiday issue. I’m super proud of this issue because not only did I have a 3 page beauty story in it, I also got the cover! I’m so grateful to be apart of an amazing Canadian lifestyle magazine. Be sure to check it out for holiday ideas! Cover story on pg. 44 and beauty story pg. 8!

Glitter, sparkle, and shimmer is in full force now that the holidays are just around the corner! Don’t be afraid to add a little bling to your look as you head out to your many holiday parties.

The look I created is classic Old Hollywood with a slight twist. It’s all about glowing skin, bold brows, winged liner and bold luscious lips. Take this iconic look and play around with different colours.

Get the Look:

  1. Even out your skin with a foundation that has a semi-matte finish and good coverage.
  2. To balance a bold lip you need to have a full brow. I used Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Brow which is a water-proof formula. If you’re new to filling in your brows, using this gel will take some time to get used to but you can be sure your brows will be there until you remove your makeup! The best way to use this is to dab a pin-size drop onto your hand and dip your angled brush in it. Remove the excess off on a tissue. Use light strokes in the direction of your hair growth and only apply where you need it. If you need to soften or blend, do it quickly because it sets rather quickly. This is excellent over top of faded tattooed brows too.
  3. If you love cream shadows that won’t budge you must have the Make Up For Ever Black Tango Palette (limited edition palette for the holidays). I adore these shadows because they glide onto the eyes and blend superbly! The palette includes black with red highlights, black with green highlights, black with blue highlights and an ivory shade. For this look, I used the Ivory shade as the base and concentrated more in the inner corner and brow bone. Rather than using a traditional black liner, I chose the black with blue highlights which is just beautiful. It has a slight metallic finish and looks stunning when the light catches it. I used a thin liner brush and gradually thickened the line until I was satisfied with the shape.
  4. Over top of the ivory shade from MUFE, I used this absolutely stunning gold shadow from Lise Watier. I also used this to highlight her cheekbones, cupid’s bow and even dabbed some onto the lips. It has to be one of my favourite gold shadows I own. The texture is luxurious and is velvety smooth. I was a little bummed when I received it though because it was shattered. I will have to give it some makeup fix TLC – I love it that much!
  5. With all the yummy eats you’ll be chomping on and champagne you’ll be sipping, you’ll want a lip colour that won’t budge. If you haven’t tried Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Rouge lippies you must. It’s one of the best long-lasting formulas I’ve tried and it doesn’t dry out the lips. The clear gloss keeps your lips hydrated for a long time even after eating. The shine disappears but the gloss keeps your lips feeling comfortable. I used #9 on Jenna which is a gorgeous burgundy shade. The gold shimmer looks amazing over top. Just add a little to the center of your lips.

Give your hair some sexy waves, add some blingy jewelry and your holiday glam look is complete!

Event: The Brides, The Makeovers, and Team Awesome At The Dash Wedding Fall Bridal Show

This was one busy weekend! On November 13, Brianne from Glam by Brianne and I were vendors at our first bridal show! The event was put on by Dash Weddings. It was a very intimate, boutique style kind of show. “Team Awesome” which also included our wonderful assistant, Dana, had an amazing time making up brides, giving away prizes, and mingling with other great vendors!

Thank you to all the wonderful brides who stopped at our booth to chat. We look forward to making you look beautiful on your wedding day!

Love Brianne’s expression here! Photo Credit: Glam by Brianne

Also, a special thanks to Make Up For Ever, Urban Decay, and Love Handles for sponsoring our giveaways! Unfortunately, I forgot to get a photo of the beautiful Love Handles clutch! But there are more to come so stay tuned!

Our lovely brides that visited our booth were also treated with either an Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint in Quickie or a Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Midnight Cowboy! Yes, our booth was definitely the place to be. Congratulations to one of our lucky brides, Jennifer, who won $250 worth of Make Up For Ever products, a free hair/makeup trial from me and Brianne, and the Love Handles bridal clutch!

The texture of Afterglow is light yet creamy and blends easily onto the skin. It gives a beautiful flush to the skin. Quickie looks like a shocking pink at first glance, but it’s actually quite sheer yet has enough pigment to be seen. Lip Junkie will definitely get you hooked with it’s high shine plumping finish (without any irritation or stickiness) and vanilla-mint flavour! Now in a gloss, Midnight Cowboy, is a lovely sheer nude sparkle.

Our awesome assistant, Dana, is wearing Afterglow in Quickie on her cheeks and lips! Doesn’t she look purdy? I had a lot of fun doing her makeup!

How amazing is this dress? I had to take a shot of it because it’s so glam and over the top! It’s not my style, but it’s perfect for the bride that wants all the bling and drama on her wedding day! To view more gorgeous dresses, check out Ines Di Santo store locations!

If you’re looking for some wedding contacts here are some AMAZING people we met at the show!  The funky girls at CAKE STAR, modern but trendy invitations from JOLIE PAPETERIE and of course the photography beauties from STUDIO STUDIOS. It was a real pleasure meeting you all!

Joy Approved: 5 Pink Blushes You Should Know About

This post is dedicated to my friend Marsha – it’s a few months late but I’ve been thinking about this topic for some time. I’ll also be posting my favourite peach blushes, bronzers, and highlighters in the near future so stay tuned!

I love me a good pink blush. A pink flush is girly and youthful. Pink cheeks has been the colour of choice for my most recent brides. Read up on which pink blushes I reach for often from my kit!

CARGO Catalina Blush ($26 CAD): If you’re looking for a versatile blush that suits all skin tones, Catalina is THE blush! This blush has been on my want list ever since I worked backstage for The Shopping Channel featuring Catalina. The fabulously talented makeup artist, Arabella, who I got to work with at the Junos, reconfirmed this was a must-have blush especially for bridal makeup. It just gives the most perfect “blushing” bride look. The shade in the pot looks like a soft pink, but on different skin tones I find it deepens and adjusts to whoever is wearing it. It doesn’t have a shimmer, but leaves a beautiful glow on the skin. It photographs fantastically as well. These blushes are a good size so this will last you a while.Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blush in #4 & #5 ($25 USD): These cream blushes offer a healthy dose of colour that imparts a soft glow and is long-lasting. For drier skin tones, I will apply this on its own after the foundation but before the powder. To really make blush long-lasting and to enhance a powder blush, I like layering this underneath a powder blush. Two of my favourite shades from the line are #4 (Walk of Shame) and #5 (Nip Slip). Walk of Shame is a bubblegum pink that looks wonderful on fairer skin tones and is the perfect shade for a baby doll flush.Nip Slip is a neutral pink that works on most skin tones. It has warmer undertones while Walk of Shame has cooler undertones. Word of Caution: A little goes a long way so gently pump the bottle and dab onto cheeks until you get the desired shade.tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Amused ($25 USD): Believe all the hype!tarte’s newest blushes on the block have become hands down one of my favourite blushes. Gorgeous colours, highly pigmented, long-lasting, and all-natural! These blushes are infused with natural clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon River and naturally baked by the sun making it long-lasting up to 12 hours. And can you believe it works for every skin type? For my oily beauties, it minimizes oil in and around the pores. For drier types like moi, it has nourishing and hydrating properties that naturally restore skin’s moisture. And for combination skin, it hydrates and minimizes where your skin needs it. Amused is a bright pink and requires a very light hand otherwise it may appear too heavy especially on fairer skin. This is the type of shade that makes the cheeks the focus of the look while the eyes and lips are kept soft. This is also a great blush for medium-dark to deeper skin tones. If you haven’t already picked up one, this should definitely be on your radar! It’s worth the hefty price. Next on my list: Dollface, Blissful, and Tipsy!

NARS Mata Hari Blush ($27 USD): What’s not to love about NARS? You’ll find a good selection of must-have NARS’ blushes in my kit. Don’t be fooled by the picture – it’s actually a lot deeper in the pan. It’s described as a rose petal pink, but it looks more like a raspberry pink. It works for all skin tones light to deep. For fairer skin, I just dab a bit onto the cheeks, but this gives the perfect pop of colour on deeper skin tones. Darker skin tones can wear more vibrant shades and it will still appear like a natural flush of colour on the face.

And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed reading up on my favourite must-have pink blushes! What are your go-to pink blushes for the perfect girly glow?

Products were sent for editorial consideration (with the exception of NARS Mata Hari) and I truly love them!
